GALENA – Seymour’s Aidan Hiester recorded a hat trick as the Owls ousted Bedford North Lawrence 5-0 during the first round of the Class 3A girls soccer sectional at Floyd Central on Tuesday night.
Hiester, a junior midfielder, scored twice in a 2:30 span in the second half as Seymour (12-4-2) advanced to the semifinal to face Jennings County (a 2-1 winner over New Albany in overtime).
Hiester started the scoring at 20:04 of the first half, and Bailey Lykins added a goal at 8:17 as the Owls took a 2-0 advantage at intermission. Hiester struck again at 21:54 and 19:21 in the second half, and Alyssa Perry capped the victory with a goal at 8:41.
BNL (5-8-1) battled Seymour to a scoreless stalemate during the regular-season clash on Sept. 13 at BNL.
“They spread us out, playing on that big field (10 yards wider than BNL’s pitch) at Floyd, and they were relentless on their attack,” BNL coach D.J. West said. “We did good job of defending in it, but we struggled maintaining any possession or getting quality chances on goal.
“Moving forward, we need to work on getting more touches, getting comfortable playing with the ball at our feet. That’s one thing Seymour did very well. They stayed in formation and were able to built the attack. We were playing a lot of catch-up to get it forward.”
Seymour owned an 18-5 edge in shots.
Jeffersonville and Floyd Central, which drew the byes in the six-team field, will collide in the second semifinal on Thursday night. The championship match is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
