BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawerence vented some frustrations on Madison, conquering the Cubs 4-1 in the 7th-place match of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Stars (5-9) swept the doubles and dominated on two singles courts to salvage the final match of the week-long event.
Molly Simmerman and Angelica Godsey hammered Grace Brautigam and Ruby Jacobs 6-0, 6-0 at No.2 doubles, while Abby Riley and Abbey Bridges bounced Olivia Kelley and Renee Walker 6-3, 6-4 at No.1.
“We were the better team, and we played really well,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “We did the right things and finally got a win.
“We shared our frustrations (following a 3-2 loss to Jennings County on Wednesday) in practice, talked about some things, worked on some things. And they just let them have it. We’re going to move on and today was a good start. That was a big improvement.”
Presley Clark topped Wiley Gross 6-2, 6-1 at No.2 singles while Sarah Gaither dropped Emma Lostutter 6-1, 6-1 at No.3.
The Cubs broke through at No.1 singles with Kourtney Neukam edging Alex Godsey 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.
The Stars will learn their sectional draw for the first round of the state tournament at Bloomington North on Monday. BNL will celebrate Senior Night on Tuesday while hosting Martinsville.
