Stone, Stars fight off Braves

Sarah Stone clammed 3 doubles as BNL beat Terre Haute South on Friday afternoon.

TERRE HAUTE – Bedford North Lawrence concluded the regular season with a thrilling 6-5 victory at Terre Haute South during high school softball action on Friday afternoon.

The Stars (20-6) blasted to an early 4-0 lead, then had to fight off the Braves in the final two innings. Sarah Stone had 3 hits – all doubles – and 4 RBIs while powering BNL into the postseason with momentum as it prepares to defend its sectional championship.

Stone slugged a bases-loaded double during a 4-run second inning and added a RBI double in the fifth. South scored twice in the sixth, cutting BNL’s lead to 6-5, but Zoe Adams stranded runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the victory.

Nicole Pokorny added 3 hits and scored twice, and Carlee Kern scored two runs to ignite the BNL offense. Brynlea Bennett added a key sacrifice fly and Adams forced home the first run when she was hit by a pitch.

Adams earned the win in the circle, allowing 3 runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Lauren Sackett, Emme Morris and Lexi Swann all had 2 hits for the Braves (9-13).

BNL will meet Jennings County in the second semifinal in the Class 4A sectional at Jeffersonville on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. That winner will advance to the final on Thursday at 6:30.
